Guides · X

An X accountthat says who you are.

Four steps to a business account on X: the account, a complete profile, a header that survives every screen, and a pinned first post.

Before you start

Three things,
ready first.

  • A business e-mail addressSign up with the business's own address, not a personal one.
  • A username of up to 15 charactersLetters, numbers and underscores. Short enough to be said out loud.
  • A bio, a logo and a headerA bio of up to 160 characters, a square logo and a wide header picture.

The steps

Step by step,
in this order.

X's profile is small, so each part carries weight: the bio and the pinned post are the two things a visitor reads before deciding to follow.

How to set up an X account4 steps
  • 1Create the accountSign up at x.com with the business's e-mail address, and choose the name and the username.
  • 2Fill in the profileAdd the bio, the location, the profile picture and the website address. The picture is shown in a circle, so the logo has to stay inside it.
  • 3Add the headerUpload a wide header. It is cut differently on phones and computers, so keep the words in the middle 70% of the width.
  • 4Post the first posts and pin onePost a few posts that introduce the business, then pin the one that says the most (the ⋯ menu on the post, then Pin to your profile), so a visitor meets it first. Add alt text to each picture when you attach it.

With FABLS

Then connect it,
with your own app.

FABLS posts to X through your own developer app. In the X developer portal, create an app with Read and write permission, and only then generate the access token and its secret: a token made before the permission was set can only read. Copy the app's four keys into the X card on Channels.

FABLS then posts at the slot's time once a person has approved the post: up to 280 characters, pictures, threads and polls, with the replies under them back in the inbox. The setup guide in the app follows the steps above, and its Check the live profile button reads what X shows once the account is connected.

Plain about it: the developer account is yours, so X's API access, quota and credits are yours too, never castomo's. FABLS posts no video to X.

Questions

Quick answers.

Do I need a developer account to have an X account?

No. You need one only so FABLS can post: FABLS uses your own developer app, with its four keys, and does not post with a key of its own.

Why Read and write permission?

A token made before the app has write permission can only read. Set the permission first, then generate the access token.

How long can a post be?

Up to 280 characters. The bio is up to 160, the name up to 50 and the username up to 15.

Do the steps once.
Let the kit do the typing.

FABLS's setup guide for X is in the app: open Channels, then Set up a profile. It fits your words to X's limits, draws the profile picture and the header and gives you three first posts.
