Guides · Google Business Profile
A Google Business Profile, verified and complete.
Seven steps to the listing people see on Google Search and Maps: the right category, the right place, verified, with hours, photos and a description.
Before you start
Three things,
ready first.
- A Google Account for the businessThe profile is owned by the account that creates it, so use one the business will keep.
- The name, address and phoneExactly as customers see them on the sign and the door.
- Photos and the opening hoursA logo, photos of the place and the work, and the hours, including special ones.
The steps
Step by step,
in this order.
Written from how the profile works today, and short on purpose: Google changes the screens and the verification options per business, so the guide names the choices and Google's own help has the click-by-click.
- 1Sign in with a Google AccountUse a Google Account the business will keep. The profile is managed by the account that created it, and more people can be added as owners or managers later.
- 2Find or add the businessGo to google.com/business and search for the business by name. If it already appears on Google Maps, claim it instead of making a second listing; if not, add it, with the name exactly as customers see it on the sign.
- 3Choose the categoryPick the primary category that describes what the business is, not what it sells. It matters most for being found. Add a few secondary categories if they are true.
- 4Add the place or the service areaIf customers come to you, add the address. If you go to them, set a service area instead; a service-area business can hide its address.
- 5Add the phone number and the websiteAdd a phone number customers can reach and the website address.
- 6Verify the businessGoogle asks you to prove the business is yours. The options, such as a postcard, a phone call, a text, an e-mail or a video, depend on the business and on what Google offers you. Do it as soon as it is offered: until it is verified, you cannot manage the profile in full.
- 7Complete the detailsAdd the opening hours and special hours, a description of up to 750 characters, the services or products, a logo and photos of the place and the work.

The numbers
Sizes and limits,
to have to hand.
The limits and sizes Google publishes for a profile. They come from Google's own guidance, not from the FABLS kit. All platforms side by side: Profile and cover sizes.
Fit your text to its limit with the free Bio writer, or copy a size from the Size cheat sheet.
| Item | Size or limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Business name | up to 100 characters | As it appears on the sign, nothing added. |
| Business description | up to 750 characters | – |
| Photos and logo | 720 × 720 px | JPG or PNG, 10 KB to 5 MB. Google's minimum is 250 × 250 px. |
With FABLS
FABLS and Google,
said plainly.
FABLS connects Google Business Profile: it posts local posts to the listing, brings its reviews to the inbox with a reply drafted and counts them in the inbox report. Set the profile up with the steps above, then connect it on Channels and choose the location.
The other Google integration in FABLS is Google Ads search campaigns on your own account, which is a different thing from a Business Profile. It starts paused and runs only when an owner or a manager approves.
Plain about it: a review is public and answered under the business's name, so autopilot never answers one of three stars or fewer. FABLS collects no numbers for a local post.
Questions
Quick answers.
Can I have a profile without a street address?
Yes. A business that goes to its customers can set a service area and hide the address.
Why does the category matter so much?
It is how Google decides which searches your business is relevant to, so pick the one that says what you are.
Does FABLS post to Google Business Profile?
Yes. FABLS posts to Google Business Profile and brings its reviews into the inbox. Its other Google integration is Google Ads.
